Whether your player’s hard drive hiccuped or you accidentally deleted a song, you may find yourself wishing you could retrieve a file from your hard drive-based Mp3 player. The good news is that you can, and it is probably easier to do than you think. Just follow these simple steps.
Choose a data recovery software package that is designed for the recovery of files from Mp3 players. There are a number of good options, but the most popular are Digital Music Recovery, Recover My Files and Pro Data Doctor. Links to each of these can be found in the Resources section below.
Step2
Download and install the software. Unless the software you selected in the previous step is free, you will probably have to pay for it before you can download the file. After it has been downloaded, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install the software on your computer.
Step3
Connect the Mp3 player to your computer. Every Mp3 player has a port to connect the player to a computer with a USB cable. You probably already have a USB cable, which came with your Mp3 player. Use the cable to connect the device to your computer and make sure both the player and the computer are turned on.
Step4
Run the software program that you installed on your computer. Double-click on the software icon to open to software. When you are asked which drive to recover, select your Mp3 player, which will appear on the list as a removable disk.
Step5
Allow the software to scan and recover files from your Mp3 player. The program will probably display a list of files that can be recovered, and prompt you to select the ones that you would like to restore.
